We had the opportunity to work on a very special project for the Basilica of St. Mary Help, Brezje ( MARIJA POMAGAJ BREZJE ) . We were commissioned by the church to recreate the scene of Mary’s annunciation as part of the main nativity scene in the Basilica, as a full scale hologram, presented in the main mass at the altar of the crib, and combined this new technology to perfectly sync with the crib existing animatronics. At a later stage we moved the holographic display to the Basilica’s museum, where visitors can view it throughout the year. We used Hypervision holographic display, and prepared the scene in full 3d for holographic display. 

In an apostolic letter about the importance and value of the crib, Pope Francis wrote, "In the crib, it is really a creative imagination that uses very different substances to revive small masterpieces of beauty. "* In the Basilica of Mary Help, we combined the tradition in this year's cribs with Modern technology. The essence of the crib, the holy family, is presented with wooden figures, and the scene of the proclamation of Mary was upgraded with modern animation techniques. using holographic equipment, we showed how Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would miraculously give birth to her son of Jesus. For, as Pope Francis says, the purpose of this imagination (in the crib) is to express that in the new world established by Jesus, a place for everything that is human and for all creatures.

As part of the project, our artists had to create a full 3d model of the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary Following precise references we were able to capture the style and interpret older images of the characters. The 3d characters were then set up for animation, a full body and facial rig was created, to be later on animated using the latest motion capture and facial tracking technique.  Alongside the characters an interpretation of the full annunciation scene was created in a specific layered approach to allow the animation to be ported into a full 3d hologram. The main elements , Mary's bed, loom, lily, alter, and the symbolic dove, were built around the scene, and created a feeling of depth using a parallax technique.
