We were commissioned by CrimeDoor to recreate the decisive moment in the Hamilton dual, as part of the CrimeDoor Augmented Reality application. With the use of detailed research and meticulous reference works, we were able to create realistic characters dressed in their documented clothing and place them at the exact location of the duel. Furthermore, a reconstruction of New York's view at the time of the event was created for both augmented reality and virtual reality.
The scene starts with the two opponents, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, in the traditional dueling stance. They are both wearing 18th century clothing appropriate for the time period. Hamilton is wearing a black coat, white ruffled shirt, and long trousers, while Burr is wearing a blue frock coat and grey trousers. The scene is set in the early morning hours of July 11, 1804, in Weehawken, New Jersey. The backdrop of the duel is a distant view of the New York City skyline, rendered in the style of the period.
