Smart Glass Projection - Gefen Gallery Jerusalem
Now for something totally new. In collaboration with Gefen Gallery, EZwave and Gauzy we created a unique 3d experience. We combined dynamic 3d animations with Gauzy’s Smart Glass, which is based on LCG (Liquid Crystal Glass) technology, and made several vivid 3d animations of the work of Israeli artist Joel Amit for the renowned Gefen Gallery in Jerusalem.
The Gauzy Smart Glass is a versatile piece of technology that opens up a whole myriad of possibilities to create dynamic and powerful AR-driven experiences. The Smart Glass is an eye-catcher, and its ability to transition from transparent to opaque and support lively 3d animations is one of its strong points. Because of this reason we believe it is perfectly suitable to transform static works of art into energetic artistic experiences, where the artwork seems to acquire almost organic qualities.

Art and tech mix and match
Gefen Gallery wanted to have a revolutionary new way to attract and interact with the shoppers, who crowd the Mamilla Mall where the gallery is located, and use art to do it. In close collaboration with the artist and Gefen Gallery the idea developed to transform specific pieces of art into vivid 3d animations and using the AR-driven Smart Glass as a platform to engage with the audience.
The artist Joel Amit considers his work to be ‘pixel-art’; small pixels which construct a larger form. Because of the nature of his work, butterflies in flight that form specific words and recognizable shapes, it is suited to be transformed into 3d animations for the Smart Glass. We took four of his works; Here Comes The Sun, Love Is In The Air, Flying Love, Map of the World, and created vigorous 3d animated interpretations of the artworks. The butterflies in these works fly, circle, pulsate, come together and disperse again to construct these four pieces of art in a fluid manner.
Gefen Gallery’s windows have been enhanced with Gauzy Smart Glass, this is where the works of art that are enriched through 3d animations are on display. The public sees butterflies flying freely, seemingly in mid-air, and their attention is drawn to the dynamic movements and bright colors of the butterflies. The Smart Glass turned a previously somewhat plain window into a compelling and captivating piece of art, an extension of the original artwork.
