In late 2020 we created a very unique experience with the epson moverio bt40 augmented reality glasses. Gostilna pri Lojzetu is a well renowned restaurant in slovenia, celebrated with several awards, and specializes in slow food experiences, in collaboration with Chef Tomaž Kavčič , we created a one time special dinner, that as part of the courses, an augmented reality experience was given to the participants, to compliment the one of a kind dishes. We created several subtle and gentle animations appearing around the viewer as he/she are wearing the glasses in between courses. The experience was unique and unforgettable, and we see ourselves as pioneers in introducing augmented reality to the high end restaurant industry.
We used a combination of colors, textures, and shapes to create a dream-like, surreal environment. The animations were designed to help the participants relax and enjoy their dinner, as well as to provide an interesting visual accompaniment to the meal.
We believe that augmented reality is a great tool for creating unique and memorable experiences, and that it can be used to enhance any dining experience. We think that by introducing augmented reality to the restaurant industry, we can create a much more immersive and enjoyable dining experience that will truly make the event special and memorable. For example, augmented reality can be used to enhance the presentation of dishes, add visuals to explain the ingredients, or create a virtual tour of the restaurant. Augmented reality can also be used to create unique experiences that are tailored to the individual, such as allowing customers to customize their meal or explore the restaurant's history. The possibilities are endless, and we look forward to seeing what other restaurants can come up with in the future.
The experience was special on two counts: first, it allowed us to give the guests an extra element of surprise and entertainment while they were enjoying their dinner, and second, it allowed the guests to become further immersed in the atmosphere of the restaurant, as the animations that were presented were in line with the restaurant’s aesthetic and theme. The animations slowly revealed new elements as the guests experienced them, making the experience even more immersive and entertaining. The animations were designed to be both subtle and gentle, as to not detract from the main points of the dinner. We wanted the guests to be aware of the animations but also to be able to focus on the food and other aspects of the dinner without being distracted. The animations also had to be in line with the restaurant’s aesthetic, as the restaurant is known for its attention to detail in terms of its presentation and atmosphere.
